Our librarians have Master's degrees in library and information science. Their goal is to help you find and use information efficiently and effectively. Librarians are familiar with HCC departments and activities, and do "ready reference" by assisting you in finding answers to factual questions. In addition, because ours is an academic library, HCC's librarians are dedicated to teaching concepts and skills for locating and evaluating information for papers, speeches, and projects at Honolulu Community College, as well as to promoting life-long learning. They will show you how to use the best print and electronic resources for your topic. Students are assisted one-to-one at the reference desk, and may participate in library instruction sessions as part of their HCC classes.
Our librarians write pathfinders -- library guide-sheets -- to assist students with library skills and organization. HCC pathfinders include "Understanding Call Numbers", "How to Do a Research Paper", and "Writing a Bibliography" - MLA Style or APA Style. Copies of these pathfinders, and a variety of others, are available near the reference desk.
