Subscription Databases

Honolulu Community College Library subscribes to these indexes and databases of full-text magazine, newspaper, and journal articles for our users. Login and validation with your last name and library card number are required. Consult the remote authentication instructions, or contact a reference librarian. If you do not have a library card, try the non-restricted databases.

• InfoTracWeb
  Connect to InfoTrac for articles from magazines, journals, newspapers, and reference sources with General Reference Center, Expanded Academic ASAP, OneFile Plus, Business Index ASAP, Computer Database, Health Reference Center, LegalTrac, and the National Newspaper Index. Many articles are full-text.
• EBSCOHost
  Connect to EBSCOHost for Academic Search Premier (magazine and journal articles) and other general interest, education, health, business, social science, and reference databases. There are databases for all levels, from primary school through higher education. Many articles are full-text.
• SIRS Knowledge Source (SKS)
  Connect to SKS for full-text articles, documents, and reference materials from U.S. and international publications, plus selected Web sites. SKS includes SIRS Researcher (social issues, science, health, business, global issues), SIRS Government Reporter, SIRS Renaissance (arts and humanities), and SKS WebSelect.
• Science Direct
  Connect to Science Direct for scientific, technical and medical information, including articles from peer-reviewed academic journals.
• Databases and Indexes, UH Manoa Libraries
  Browse the indexes and databases of the University of Hawaii at Manoa -- please note that some of these are not available from off-campus. These are the unrestricted databases.
• Databases and Indexes, Hawaii State Public Library System (HSPLS)
  Select from the variety of indexes and databases of the Hawaii public libraries. A HSPLS card is required for remote access. Please note that some databases can only be accessed from within a Hawaii State public library.

Hawaii-Pacific Indexes

These indexes cover publications from Hawaii and the Pacific region:

• Hawaii Newspaper Index
  Connect to the Hawaii Newspaper Index to search for articles from the Honolulu Advertiser and the Honolulu Star-Bulletin. The Index is produced and maintained by the Hawaii State Public Library System (HSPLS).
• Hawaii Pacific Journal Index (HPJI) via Hawaii Voyager
  HPJI is an index to articles about Hawaii and the Pacific, and to magazines and journals published in these areas. (Select "Hawaii Pacific Journal Index" from the Citation Database menu.")   Note: Guided Search is recommended.

Non-restricted Databases

These indexes and databases are accessible to all Internet users:

• CQ Press in Context
  CQ Press in Context offers selections from the CQ Press Electronic Library of documents on government and politics. It also links to related Websites.
• ERIC Database
  ERIC is the largest source of education information, and contains more than one million abstracts of documents and journal articles on education research and practice. The ERIC Database includes both the Resources in Education (RIE) and Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE). Updated monthly.

  Another AskERIC component is the AskERIC Virtual Library of selected educational resources, including over 1000 lesson plans.

• FindArticles.com
  This database contains full-text articles from more than 300 magazines and journals, 1998 to the present. Search the archive, or select from the list of magazine titles.
• Free Medical Journals Site links to health, medical, and scientific journals that provide free access on the Internet, often beginning several months after publication. Sponsored by Bernd Sebastian Kamps, maintained by Sylvie Sou.

• Ingenta (formerly UnCover)
  Ingenta searches over 20,000 journals and magazines on a wide variety of research topics and yields article summaries. Contact your library for the availability of the publication, or check Ingenta for pay-for-article services. Ingenta includes the Uncover Plus and Medline databases.
• NLM Gateway
  The NLM Gateway searches multiple databases in the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), including MEDLINE/PubMed, OLDMEDLINE, and LOCATORplus.
  Or, connect to PubMed directly, to search MEDLINE and additional citations from biomedical literature.

  Note: NLM Gateway replaces Internet Grateful Med (IGM). Databases that were available through IGM are now available through these search services. You may also consult the National Library of Medicine's site index.

• MagPortal
  MagPortal searches over 150 free magazine Web sites for full-text articles. New listings are added each business day.

Many periodicals have Web versions.
