Current issues of magazines and newspapers are displayed near the windows on the first floor, and may be browsed and read during library hours.
- Back issues are available in paper and sometimes, in microform formats -- microcartridge, microfilm, or microfiche. Some magazine articles are also available in full-text through InfoTrac and EbscoHost.
- Paper copies of back issues are held at the Circulation Counter. Request them by completing a Magazine Request form, and presenting your HCC library card. Please note that magazines and newspapers do not circulate. If you would like to make copies of articles, photocopier machines are on the first floor of the library.
Microcartridge, Microfilm, and Microfiche
Reader/printer machines are available. Copies may be printed for 10 cents per page.
Micro-film, -fiche, -cartridge -- what's the difference?
- Microfilm is on spools, and is threaded onto the reader/printer machine.
- Microfiche are small sheets of film that are placed face-down in the reader/printer.
- Microcartridge film is enclosed in a plastic jacket which makes it easy to load on the reader/printer. Microcartridges are labeled "Magazine Collection", and are used with InfoTrac . The index will often provide a number that points to the appropriate microcartridge and frame.
e.g. 56A2432 = microcartridge 56A, frame 2432

to see which periodicals the library has, and to connect to their Web editions.
- Use an index to locate articles about your
subject. HCC Library has a variety of indexes online and in print.
