A non-traditional career is one in which more than 75% of the positions are held
by members of the opposite gender. For women this often means higher than average lifetime
earnings compared to earnings from jobs traditionally held by women. In addition, increased
freedom and better fringe benefits make starting a non-traditional career appealing to women.
