FACULTY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEETING 
May 6, 2005
9:00 am
Pearl Harbor Apprenticeship Building
MINUTES

Attending: Jerry Cerny, Dolores Donovan, Sherrie Rupert, Jeannie Shaw,
Linda Soma and Lisa Yogi
Not Attending: Monir Hodges (Dennis Kawaharata has returned to Kapiolani
CC and is no longer the Administration Liaison for the committee)

1.	The following handouts were distributed;

Faculty Development Foundation Account Statement

Old Business

New Business

1. Foundation Account:  A Faculty Development Foundation Account statement
was distributed.  Nearly $1000 was earned from Koala Moa chicken sales
this year.  The committee approved funds for a lei which was purchased at
the recent New York Times Workshop.  The Committee also approved $400 to
purchase a subscription for the Teaching for Success Newsletter for the
next academic year.

2. Jerry Announced that he has completed the end-of-year Faculty
Development report which is submitted to the chair of the FSEC at the end
of each academic year.  Copies are submitted to the Chancellor and the
Chief Academic Office and one copy kept on file.

3. Jerry asked for reflections on this past year and for suggestions for
Faculty Development activities for next year.  Jeannie stated she was
happy to be on the committee and complimented Jerry for the work he has
done.  She also stated she wished she could have done more to support the
activities of the committee.  Jeannie said she and Emily Kukulies have
been discussing the organization of an after-graduation party in the Shell
for possibly this year and definitely for next year.  The committee
members conducted a discussion on this and approved $300 for a party this
year if it is organize and held.  Jerry said he would check with Earl
Nakahara to see is UHPA could also offer financial support for a party.
Dolores stated she really enjoyed the New York Times Workshop and plans to
incorporate using the newspaper in her classes in the fall.  Linda
complimented the Gwen Fujie Tongue Fu Presentation.  Lisa announced that
Gwen will be giving a Tongue Fu Presentation at HCC on May 25, 8:00 am -
12:00 noon and HCC faculty and staff will be invited to attend.  Lisa
suggested that presentations from the Wo Speaker's Bureau be scheduled
again next year.

Jeannie conducted a very informative tour of the Pearl Harbor
Apprenticeship facility.  A van tour of Pearl Harbor and Ford Island was
also conducted.  The meeting was adjourned at 11:15 am back at HCC.
