FACULTY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MEETING
May 2, 2002

MINUTES
Attending: Jerry Cerny, Xin Li

1. The 2001-2002 Faculty Development Foundation account statement and a
"shell handout" were distributed
2. The minutes from the March 5 meeting were approved.

New Business
1. Jerry announced that Xin Li and Earl Nakahara are the two HCC faculty
members who will be attending the Hawaii Great Teachers Seminar this
summer. Application forms were collected and attendance decisions were
made by the committee. Funds to support this come from the College.
2. The Faculty Development Foundation account statement was reviewed. The
account balance at the beginning of the academic year was $3875.55 and at
the end will be $3687.67.
3. Jerry stated that he will be distributing the "shell handout" and a
shell to all faculty and many staff and lecturers at the beginning of the
fall semester. Faculty Development Foundation account funds will be used
to cover any incurred expenses.
4. The committee agreed (those present and others through email) to spend
$398 from the Faculty Development Foundation account this spring for the
2002-2003 subscription of the Teaching for Success monthly newsletter.
This will allow no interruption in receiving issues this coming fall.
5. Jerry and Xin made Mentoring Program match ups. To the extent possible
mentorees were matched up with more than one mentor. Jerry will notify
mentorees and mentors of the match ups and instruct the mentorees to make
the initial contact to establish the mentor/mentoree relationship. There
were no matches for two of the mentors. This is an ongoing program so as
other mentoree requests are received, matches will continue to be made.
