plagiarism. Lisa shared that Gwen Fujie will be presenting her first
workshop on Oahu at Leeward CC on February 11 and all HCC faculty and
staff are invited to attend this or either upcoming workshop at Kapiolani
CC or at Windward CC. Lisa stated that she and Monir met and are
suggesting that two presenters from the Wo Speaker's Bureau be invited to
HCC. Their suggestions include a presenter on sleep deprivation and a
presenter on Ahupuaa - The Living Community, a workshop on working
together with Hawaiian values for the betterment of the college, our
students, and each other. Lisa will check with the psychology faculty and
lecturers to try an tie the sleep deprivation workshop to a psychology
class and check with the Native Hawaiian Center on co-sponsoring the
Ahupuaa workshop. Both would be open to all faculty and staff. Lisa also
announced there are still slots available at this afternoon's True Colors
Workshop.

2. Faculty Development Foundation Account: The committee members approved
using Faculty Development Foundation funds to pay for refreshments at
today's True Colors Workshop and split the cost of the bus excursion on
the Excellence in Education Day with Staff Development.

3. Wo Learning Champions: Lisa stated that as of yet, no applications
have been received for the 4th generation Wo Learning Champion. Several
suggestions were shared and Lisa would be following up with several
colleagues, faculty and APT, to encourage application submission.

4. Excellence in Education Day: Jerry stated that this committee meeting
would be followed by an Excellence in Education Day planning committee
meeting and all were encouraged to stay for that meeting. Excellence in
Education Day will be March 4 and will focus on accreditation, assessment
and student learning outcomes. Following a morning welcome, instruction
and non-instructional faculty and staff will be split. The instructional
folks will attend a program SLO overview followed by breakouts to work on
individual program SLOs. The non-instructional folks will attend an

local social service agencies, or a bus excursion to a location yet to be
announced. Information will be shared with the campus as the plans are
developed.

New Business

1. Professional Development Awards: The Professional Development
application form used for the fall requests was approved for the spring
requests. March 4th was chosen to be the deadline for submission of the
application. Awards will be made at the March 11th Faculty Development
Committee meeting. Jerry stated that $2249 was awarded during the fall,
$2000 will be held back to send two HCC faculty members to the Hawaii
Great Teachers Seminar this summer, so $5751 will be available for awards
this spring. Depending on applications submitted, the current $1000
maximum per faculty member will be adhered to or the funding criteria
changed to best and most equitably award the funds. Jerry encouraged all
committee members to consider attending the HGTS.

2. Dee Grayson SAGE Workshop: Jerry stated that the System Perkins
Professional Development Committee, of which he is a member, is finalizing
plans for a Student Achievement Grounded in Equity (SAGE) series of
workshop to be presented in mid March. Dee Grayson will be the presenter.
She was here 10 years ago and presented a Generating Expectations for
Student Achievement (GESA) train-the-trainer workshop, which several HCC
faculty members attended. The Oahu SAGE workshop will be Saturday, March
19 at Windward CC. A SAGE train-the-trainer workshop is currently
scheduled for Thursday, March 24 at Honolulu CC. This may be changed
pending the decision by UHPA to have that date as a holiday for faculty.
An announcement on the SAGE workshops will be sent out soon.
