co-sponsored events from the past month. Of highlight was a showing of
the film, "Once Were Warriors" co-sponsored with the Committee on Social
Equity.

2. Professional Development Awards - Jerry summarized the professional
development funds that were awarded at the last meeting. Funds were set
aside to send two colleagues to the Hawaii Great Teachers Seminar this
summer. All $7000 was awarded.

New Business

1. Spring Activities - Spring Activities were discussed. Faculty
Development is co-sponsoring a series of URL workshops presented by the
Information Technology Center. Fac Dev is also co-sponsoring a +/- Grade
Discussion with the FSEC on Friday, 4/16 and a WebCT Workshop co-sponsored
with the distance education folks.

2. Faculty Development Foundation Account - A financial statement was
distributed. Leon's "chicken sales" continue to be a real boom to the
account. A $250 deposit was also received from the Wo Project. This was
money that was earmarked for HCC for the WILD day in March. The campus
received an extra $500 which was split equally between Staff Development
and Faculty Development.

3. Newsletter - Jerry shared the final draft of the Spring Newsletter.
Dolores has edited it. Copies will be made and distributed next week.
The Newsletter will also be posted on the web and an email announcement
sent out after the posting.

4. Hawaii Great Teachers Seminar - Keith Davidson and Jess Aki were
selected to attend the Hawaii Great Teachers Seminar this summer on the
Big Island using campus professional development funds. Jerry stated
there is a very good chance Perkins funds will be available to send two
others to the Seminar. Grace Ihara and Lynnette McKay were selected to
attend if these Perkins funds become available.

5. Teaching for Success - In the past, Faculty Development Funds have been
used to purchase a 20-copy subscription of the monthly Teaching for
Success Faculty Development newsletter. It was agreed to fund this again
next year. The cost is $400.

6. Graduation Party - Jerry stated that because there was no campus
Holiday Party this past year, there will be an after graduation party.
He will talk to Lorry Suehiro about co-sponsoring the party with the Staff
Development Council. He will also ask Earl Nakahara if there will be UHPA
money to help fund the party. If collected money from attendees and other
sources of funds do not cover the total cost of the party, the Committee
agreed that Faculty Development Foundation money would be used to
subsidize the party. Jerry stated that the Fac Dev Committee is not the
social committee for the campus, but asked that all members consider
assisting with the after graduation party.

7. Committee Membership Next Year - The Committee on Committees has
distributed committee request forms for next year. Jerry encouraged all
members who are currently serving their first year on the Fac Dev
Committee to reconsider serving on the committee again next year.

8. End-of-Year Letter - Jerry stated that he will submit an end-of-year
report to the FSEC Chair, Chancellor, and Dean of Academic Affairs. He
asked all Committee members to submit an end-of-year letter, which should
include an assessment of this year's activities and ways to improve next
year's initiatives, before the end of the semester.

9. Jerry stated that Cynthia Smith has asked that the Faculty Development
Committee be the focal point for faculty assessment initiatives that will
take place over the next two years in coordination with Accreditation.
It was agreed that Faculty Development will assume this role. Two Student
Learning Outcome workshops are scheduled later this month and in early May
as the first efforts in this regard.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:10 pm.
