Information Literacy Online (LILO). This will be co-offered with the
Library. Xin Li will be the presenter and it will be offered in the
Library on March 23 at 3:00 pm. Jeannie shared two handouts from Jeffrey
Owens who will be presenting the spring Lunch and Learn workshop. The
committee members decided that Jeannie should ask him to do a presentation
on Identity Theft and Personal Security. If these two topics are too much
for a 90-minute presentation, Identity Theft would be the priority topic.
Wednesday, April 12 at 12 noon in 2-214 was chosen for the workshop.
Jerry announced a two-day, train-the-trainer workshop to be offered on May
15 and 16. It will be on recruiting and retaining females into male
dominated CTE programs and presented by Donna Milgram of the National
Institute for Women in Trades, Technology and Science. Each community
college will get three seats at this workshop. He asked the committee
members to discuss this with their colleagues and help identify the HCC
participants.
- WILD Debrief: Sheryl shared information on last week's WILD.
Although not complete, the evaluations indicated that there was
overwhelming approval of the activities for the day. There were 118
pre-registrations and 14 registrations at the door. Fifty-eight faculty
and staff members participated in the Bishop Museum excursion. With money
collected from the attendees for lunch and money supplied by the Wo
Learning Champion project, no Faculty Development or Staff Development
money was needed. The money left over will be used for the
after-graduation party. Lunches were purchased for all
speakers/presenters. When the final report for WILD is completed, Sheryl
will send a copy to Jerry to share with the committee members.
- Faculty Development Newsletter: Rona reported that Silvan Chung
would write an article for the Spring Faculty Development Newsletter.
There are two new faculty members to highlight in the newsletter. Jerry
stated the newsletter will be published on April 21 and Silvan should have
her article to him by Monday, April 17.
- Professional Development Awards: Six applications for Faculty
Professional Development funding were received. The total amount of the
six requests was $4995. These were all approved. $3000 was set aside to
fund three Honolulu CC faculty to attend the Hawaii Great Teachers Seminar
on the Big Island this summer. Jerry stated that there should be matching
Perkins funds to send one or two additional CTE faculty to the seminar.
- After Graduation Party: Jeannie stated that she would again help
organize this party, which will be held at the Shell after graduation.
She said that she will work with Emily Kukulies on the party. It was
decided that $5 will be collected from each faculty and staff member
attending to help pay for the food and drinks at the party. Jerry
volunteered to collect the money - cash only. There is bottled water left
from WILD that will be served at the party. Jeannie will be asking for
help as the date gets closer.
Open Discussion
- Jerry thanked the members for their contributions on the committee
this year. He stated that he hopes those serving on their first year will
indicate they want to serve again next year. He stated there will be new
members from Tech 1, Tech 2 and PCATT next year.
- Jeannie shared a flyer with the committee members on an upcoming
Pearl Harbor Job Fair that will be held at the Marine Education and
Training Center on Saturday, March 25. She asked for assistance in
helping attendees to the job fair with logging on to a computer and
signing up for an e-mail account.
- Jeannie stated that even though she would not be on the Faculty
Development Committee next year, she would help coordinate the
after-graduation party. Lisa said she looks forward to helping with the
next WILD in two years.
- The next meeting was set for Thursday, April 20 at 3:00 pm in the
Pearl Harbor training building. Jeannie will host the meeting, which will
include a short tour of her facilities at Pearl Harbor. Jerry will drive
him van and take committee members because he has privileges to get on the
base.
