Change of Status
If you are in the United States with a B (visitors) visa or under an F-2 status, you are currently not eligible to take classes at Honolulu Community College. To change your status without leaving the country, a Change of Status request must be submitted to the California Service Center. This process generally takes 3-4 months, and students are not allowed to register for any classes unless the change of status is approved. If you have questions about the Change of Status process, you can inquire with an Immigration attorney, or contact the Admissions and Counseling Office for assistance.
We generally encourage that students return to their home country so that we can issue an I-20 without having to go through the Change of Status process. The Change of Status process is costly, time consuming and does not guarantee that you will receive approval to change your status.
Other visa types may allow for part or full time study. Contact the Admissions and Counseling Office for more information.
