Learn some tools to help you get and stay organized to balance the demands of home, school and work. This workshop will go over some old school tricks such as paper bound organizers to the online organizer systems such as those provided through UH Portal, Google, Yahoo!. MSN and Gubb. We'll also take a look at the hottest new releases of 2008 in PDAs, and cell phones that can help you stay connected and organized on the go!!!
Money Management for the Cash Strapped College Student

This workshop will go over some basics in budgeting, saving and investing. The focus will be an overview of some software and online tools you can use to help you keep track of your income, get a grip on your spending, help you formulate and maintain your personal budget as well as track some of your investments. The tools to be explored include Quicken, mVelopes as well as MSN Money and Yahoo!Finance.

Learn how to organize and keep your website bookmarks and references all in one place. Do you use multiple machines between your home, school and job to do research? Learn about this and other nifty tools that will allow you to keep all your bookmarks secure in one place so that you can access them no matter where you are, PLUS share them with your friends. This workshop will focus on the del.icio.us service provided by Yahoo!, an excellent tool where you can not only store your bookmarks, but share them with your friends as well which makes it an ideal service for group research projects and collaboration as well as fun "social" applications.

This workshop will go over EVERYTHING you need to know and guide you through the process in determining WHAT your computing needs are and how to evaluate and all the different options that are out there (platform, hardware, software, etc). By the end of this session you'll know get a fair grasp of what your needs are, what your options are and how to make an informed purchasing decision to get the best machine for you at the right price.

As a University of Hawaii system faculty or staff member you have access to the Laulima collaboration site. Many of you may use or be looking to use Laulima to publish course syllabii, notes or assessment tools. Did you know however that you can ALSO use Laulima to help manage your research projects or committee assignments? Is there a committee or a joint grant or proposal you're working on? Does your department have a need to improve its communication or collaboration processes? This workshop will show you ALL you need to know on how you can effectively use Laulima to manage group projects and collaborate effectively with your colleagues.

So you've bought your computer, took it home, set it up and have been plugging away at using it. Like with anything else tough, in order to keep your machine running in tip top shape you need to find the time and have the know how to keep your machine running in top form. In this workshop we'll be going over best practices and pointing out ALL of the tools you'll need to keep your computer in top operating form so that you can compute in confidence knowing your machine is safe, secure and won't go down on you unexpectedly with you unprepared.

Just about everyone knows and uses Microsoft Office, the de-facto industry standard office suite. This workshop will introduce you to the new world of Online Office Suites. These Office Suites are web-based and built for group collaboration and projects which is of tremendous value to both students who do group projects as well as office workers and project members who must collaborate together on documents while on the go. The suites we will examine include: Google Docs, Zoho and ThinkFree.
Computing From Home III: Selecting Your Internet Service Provider

Are you in the market to get Internet service at home? Or perhaps you do have an Internet Service Provider already but may be wondering if you can find a better and or cheaper ISP? If so, this workshop is for YOU. We'll take a quick look at the following: 1) the different TYPES of ISP connections and services available to people and 2) the various ISPs available to people here on Oahu and their respective strengths and weaknesses. By the end of this workshop you should have a better idea of the options available to you in finding the best Internet Service Provider to meet your needs.
