Student Achievement Award for Honolulu Community College Diesel Mechanics Program

Four $1,250 awards are giving annually by Caterpillar, Inc. and Hawthorne Pacific Corp.

  • Awards are made to two (2) students new to the Honolulu CC Diesel Mechanics (DISL) program
  • Awards are made to two (2) continuing students majoring in Diesel Mechanics at Honolulu CC who satisfy all eligibility requirements.

Award announcement is made in the spring with funds disbursed upon enrollment for the subsequent fall term. The award may be used to pay tuition, enrollment fees, and miscellaneous college fees and to purchase textbooks, TOOLS, and supplies.

Eligibility Requirements for Students New to the Diesel Mechanics Program

  1. Be a high school graduating senior planning to attend Honolulu CC majoring in diesel mechanics or be a new or continuing Honolulu CC student who has taken no more than 4 credits of DISL
  2. Curriculum or a new or continuing Honolulu CC student who has taken no DISL courses
  3. Declare Diesel Mechanics as major
  4. Enroll in at least 12 credits per semester
  5. Have a satisfactory high school academic record (cumulative M.P.A. 2.5 or better) or college academic record (cumulative G.P.A. 2.0 or better)
  6. Submit a complete application postmarked by the published deadline (April 15 unless notified otherwise)

Eligibility Requirements for Continuing Diesel Mechanics Students

  1. Be a Honolulu CC student who has completed a minimum of 12 program specific credits (DISL courses) and no more than 24 program specific credits (DISL courses) at Honolulu CC
  2. Declare Diesel Mechanics as major
  3. Enroll in at least 12 credits per semester
  4. Have a satisfactory college academic record (Minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 in major; 2.5 overall)
  5. Submit a complete application postmarked by the published deadline (April 15 unless notified otherwise).

Application Requirements

  1. Award application
  2. Two reference forms from instructors, employers, or other responsible persons
  3. Official copy of most recent, current transcript (high school or college) showing G.P.A. or M.P.A.
