Computer Requirements

The recommended basic home computer hardware and software requirements for HCC Distance Education are listed below. Specific computer requirements for a course can be found under the specific course listing.

Pay close attention to software, hardware, and Internet connectivity requirements.  Students must have a web browser that is frames-capable, java script-enabled, and Java-enabled.

Software

  • Netscape Navigator 7.1
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or higher
  • Firefox v.1.0

Also required:

  • a news reader, an e-mail program
  • an Internet Service Provider.

Hardware

Computer requirements are:

  • a PC with a Pentium 4 or a Celeron 2.8 or higher processor running Windows XP
  • or an Apple MacIntosh G3 or higher with Mac OS X, and
  • a 56k or faster internet connection
