WEEKLY QUESTIONS

Please answer the following questions and submit answers to me through email or regular mail. These should be submitted to me by Wednesday, March 18.  Each answer should be at least four-five sentences.  I will read them over and send them back with comments. This exercise is worth 8 points.

1.  Choose *either* Sweden or Poland, and describe the key factors which led to its ultimate decline as a significant European power.

2. Identify and describe the ways in which Prussian society was clearly militaristic in nature as a result of the actions of Frederick William I (the Great Elector) and Frederick II (the Great.)

Discussion Questions:

1.  There are some important patterns and/or directions in Central Europe established during this period (17th – 18th centuries) that help understand current relations in this region.  Discuss one example that you find significant.

2.   What were some of the common problems faced by Central/Eastern European powers as they tried to build the same level of power as the great Western states of France and Britain?
